Informing Commanders How to Inform the World

Joint Task Force formation requires clear and concise communication between commanders, staff members and supported commands, but it also requires the ability to communicate with the public. Joint Public Affairs Training, given by Joint Planning Support Element Public Affairs, helps develop these skills.

Seventeen-Nation Army

During their recent visit to the JECC headquarters in Norfolk, students from the U.S. Military and those of 15 other nations attending the Army War College’s Joint Warfighting Advanced Studies Program pause with American and German faculty members after taking part in a discussion with Joint Planning Support Element leaders about the current state of joint planning as well as best practices and lessons learned.

Planning for Monster Problem Sets

Employing "Godzilla Methodology" is but one way Joint Planning Support Element members determine which element on a list of critical strengths is the correct center of gravity, enabling commanders to determine how best to destroy or neutralize enemy sources of power while protecting their own.

Leading the Pre-Jump

JCSE members lead Sustained Airborne Training at Barton Field, Fort Gordon, Ga. Also referred to as “pre-jump," its purpose is to reaffirm in explicit detail as to what jumpers will do when exciting the aircraft. Charting the Course

In the chartroom of USNS Comfort (T-AH-20), JECC’s vice commander, Brigadier General Kimberly Hamilton, USAR (center), and JECC Executive Director Marshall Ramsey (left) watch Commodore (Captain) Bryan Carmichael of Amphibious Squadron Four describe the course the 1,000-bed hospital ship must follow as it leaves Naval Station Norfolk for a goodwill mission to Central and South America. A team of specialists from the Joint Communication Support Element will be aboard to provide enhanced communications capabilities during the deployment.

Learning to Land

JCSE members practice hitting the ground before grabbing their parachutes and boarding an aircraft to make a recent practice jump. These airborne tactical communicators must remain qualified to drop, with their gear and equipment, anywhere in the world.
