Colonel Jackson was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, and received his commission as a field artillery officer through ROTC at Purdue University. He has commanded from the battery to brigade level. Most recently he commanded the Leader Training Brigade at Fort Jackson, South Carolina from April 2021 through June 2023.

His previous commands include Service Battery 2d Battalion 17th Field Artillery and three battalion commands including the 4th Battalion, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB); the 2d Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade in Ft. Wainwright, Alaska; and the 2d Battalion, 410th Field Artillery, as part of the 177th Armor Brigade at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.

COL Jackson’s key assignments include the Director/Fire Support Coordinator for US Army Central, Shaw Air Force Base, Senior Fires Observer, Coach/Trainer at the Joint Maneuver Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany where he worked closely with NATO and allied nations integrating fires capabilities. COL Jackson’s wartime service includes a tour in Iraq and four tours in Afghanistan. Operational deployments consist of service in Bosnia, Korea, Germany, and Alaska. 

COL Jackson holds a master’s in strategic studies (Superior Graduate) from the U.S. Army War College; a master’s in public administration from Norwich University; a master’s in theater planning from the School of Advanced Military Studies, and he is a distinguished graduate in military history from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.  Notable career courses include the Combined Arms Services Staff School, and the Basic and Advanced Field Artillery Career Courses. 

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (three oak leaf clusters), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal (seven oak leaf clusters).  He is literate and conversant in Russian, German, and Serbo-Croatian.
