On 02 May 2026, Colonel Thomas Lessmann became the Commander, 953rd Reserve Support Squadron, supporting the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC) located at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia and the Joint Staff Hampton Roads in Suffolk, Virginia. His unit augments USTRANSCOM and the JECC Reserve force by providing flexible, deployable packages composed of personnel who are experienced in joint operations, understand joint doctrine and are trained in the joint operation planning process. The 953rd also augments Joint Staff-Hampton Roads Joint Reserve Unit, Virginia, by providing experienced joint planners and operators to train and exercise combatant command headquarters and joint task force headquarters in preparation for no-notice global force response.
A 2000 graduate of the State University at Albany, New York, Col. Lessman has spent more than 24 years of active and reserve service as a Logistics Readiness Officer after being commissioned through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. He most recently served as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Director of Resources, Cyber and Technology, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering, and Force Protections at Headquarters, U.S. Air Force on Arlington, Virginia. In this role, he played a key part in planning, programming, and budgeting for sustainment, logistics, and installation resources, overseeing enterprise-wide logistics strategy, modernization, and readiness.
