Colonel Joshua Kovacic serves as the Commander, 953d Reserve Support Squadron supporting the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC) located at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia and the Joint Staff Hampton Roads in Suffolk, Virginia. His unit augments USTRANSCOM, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC) Reserve force by providing flexible, employable packages composed of personnel who are experienced in joint operations, understand joint doctrine and are trained in the joint operation planning process. The 953rd also augments Joint Staff-Hampton Roads Joint Reserve Unit, Virginia, by providing experienced joint planners and operators to train and exercise combatant command headquarters and joint task force headquarters in preparation for no-notice global force response.
Originally from Urbana, IL, Colonel Kovacic received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy, graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in May of 2000. In nearly eight years on active duty and 16 years as a reservist, Col. Kovacic has performed a variety civil engineer and mission support functions at the base, MAJCOM and HQ Air Force levels, to include tours as a PRIME BEEF Squadron Commander, RED HORSE Director of Operations, U.S. Space Command Director of Plans & Programs, and Mission Support Group Deputy, as well as two deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
Colonel Kovacic, a licensed professional engineer, serves as a Corporate Relations Advisor in his civilian capacity for Shell USA, Inc. in Houston, TX, focusing on climate and energy transition matters.
